Volunteers, who offer a variety of activities, organize St. Luke’s youth groups. Children’s chapel, Kid’s Nights, the Fall Harvest Party, Family Nights, annual Easter Egg Hunt and the activities already mentioned keep the youth busy. One of their favorite activities is St. Luke’s Catering. Bobby Chapman, a professional caterer, teaches middle through high school youth to cook and serve meals for parish events such as Lenten soup suppers, Easter brunch, Annual Meeting brunch, etc. The young people learn, work hard, have fun, obtain a work reference for their résumés and receive a small monetary reward.
The Junior High and Senior High youth groups also meet for retreats and community service. Groups have participated in Relay for Life Cancer Walk, the Pierce County Hunger Walk, accomplished yard work for seniors, and had fun with retreats and recreation. The St. Luke’s youth are encouraged to bring their friends, which offers an opportunity to showcase the Christian way of having fun while being useful to society. By tradition, the youth help with worship services twice annually. They conduct the Christmas Eve Family Service and on Youth Sunday, Girl and Boy Scouts help officiate and various students play their musical instruments.
