Adult Ministries

There are many opportunities to be involved in the life of St. Luke’s. Below is a list of ministries for adults. Contact Amanda Pedrelli at info@stlukestacoma.org to learn more about these ministries!

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild prepares the church and altar for all of our worship services, including the Eucharist, weddings, funerals, baptisms and other ceremonies.

Buildings and Grounds

Let us know if you have skills and/or knowledge that you can share in the areas of carpentry, landscaping, plumbing, etc., that may be helpful in the ongoing maintenance of our facilities and surrounding church grounds.

Creation Care

We seek to care thoughtfully for all of creation at St. Luke’s, through ways large and small. We are guided by the Care of Creation Covenant adopted by the National Episcopal Church. This group collaborates with other committees as needed and provides suggestions to the vestry. All ages and levels of commitment welcome.

Daughters of the King

Daughters of the King is a worship order for lay women in The Episcopal Church. Its purpose is prayer and evangelism: to bring women and girls to knowledge and love of Jesus and to membership in His church.

Eucharist Ministers

Eucharist Ministers, formerly known as chalice bearers, are trained and licensed to service the chalice during Holy Communion. St. Luke’s Eucharist Ministers also assist in the service by reading the Psalm and the Prayers of the People.

Eucharistic Visitors

Eucharistic Visitors are trained and licensed to take the Holy Eucharist on Sundays (and major Holy Days) to parishioners who are sick or shut-in. A short prayer service is offered along with Holy Communion.

Finance Committee

Meets as needed (4-6 times per year). Acts as advisory body to Treasurer, Vestry and Rector on all financial matters of the parish. Background in financial services, accounting and/or bookkeeping helpful but not required.

Lectors

Participates in worship by reading lessons from the Lectionary during Worship services. All new lectors will participate in a brief training session prior to being assigned to read at a Sunday service.

Landscaping Work Group

Volunteers support the work of maintaining St. Luke’s grounds with mowing, edging, trimming bushes and trees as well as weeding and sweeping.

Meal Train

Volunteers are needed to prepare meals to those within the congregation that are in need of a dinner meal due to new baby in the family, illness, etc.

Outreach Committee

The Outreach Committee meets monthly to organize efforts by the congregation to serve the community in which we reside. We welcome any level of commitment appropriate for you.

Rector’s Coffee Crew

Assist with Sunday’s post-worship coffee hour. Help is needed with the following: setting tables with tablecloths, cups, tea/coffee, cookies, before the service, and clean up after coffee hour.

St. Luke’s Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is a vibrant and active part of worship life at St. Luke’s. The choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 pm and sings most Sundays at the 10:00 service. No prior musical experience is required. Newcomers stand beside old-timers who read notes well. If you enjoy worshiping God through song and liturgy and you value fellowship that’s fun and purposeful, come join the Chancel Choir.

Sunday School Teacher / Asst.

Volunteers from the parish are needed each school year to teach Sunday School and assist during Sunday classes. Please contact Cortni to find our current needs.

Technology Committee

Meets as needed 4-6 times per year. Maintains inventory of all hardware and software assets of parish; advises Vestry on digital connectivity issues; reviews and advises on parish social media outreach and content; advises on updates and security issues.

Ushers

Attending either the 8:00am or 10:00am service. Ushers assist members and visitors to their pew before worship and assist during Communion.

Vacation Bible School

Leaders are needed for one week in July for our VBS program. If your talents include knowing how to have a great time and sharing the teachings of the Bible to eager children age 4 through 6th grade, come and join us!

St. Luke’s Crafters/Coffee and Conversations

Crafts such as knitting, quilting, embroidery, etc. in an enjoyable group setting. This group meets every Wednesday morning from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM at the church.

“Let’s Do Lunch”

Join the women of the parish at a different restaurant each month for fellowship and good food. This group typically meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 11:30.

St. Luke’s Golf Association

This group meets on the third Thursday of each month, weather permitting.

Infant and Toddler Parent Group

This group provides an opportunity for parents to forge friendships with one another, and to provide a safe environment for little ones to play together. These gatherings meet monthly on the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in the Preschool Room on the lower level of the Parish Hall. Friends who are not parishioners but are also parents of young children are welcomed.

St. Luke’s Reads (Book Club)

This group meets every other month to discuss a commonly read book. Please see the St. Luke’s bulletin board for the current reading.
